Abstract

This developmental research started with a problem related to omitting English
subjects in the primary school curriculum. Many problems arise from this event, one of
which is the limitations of teaching materials. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to
conduct research on the development of picture books as teaching materials containing
material on ecosystems for sixth grade primary school students. The aim is to explain the
process of compiling and describing the quality of a picture book with the theme "Inside the
Ecosystem" for sixth graders.
This type of research is Research and Development or R&D. The resulting product is a
picture book with ecosystem material for sixth graders. The process of developing a picture
book follows seven steps from modifications to Sugiyono's steps and Borg and Gall's steps,
namely potentials and problems, data collection, product design, design validation, design
revision, product trials and product revisions. Expert lecturers validate picture books as
validators and get scores of 51-100% for each part with the appropriate to very feasible
categories to be tested with several suggestions for improvement.
The trial was conducted on one English teacher and 12 students to find out their
opinion about the quality of picture books. The results of the trials conducted were at
intervals of 51-100%, where the score results are the highest with the title "Very Worthy." As
a result, this picture book will be used as additional English learning materials for teachers
and sixth grade students of SD Hj. Isriati Baiturrahman 2, Semarang.
