Abstract
The United States and Saudi Arabia are two countries with a fairly strong image of
friendship, which are characterized by transactional closeness in oil and military matters.
America seems to act as a 'custodian' of Saudi Arabia's oil reserves which are so
important and influential in the stability of the world oil market, as well as the demand
for oil consumption in the United States itself. However, this tightness seems to be fading
when Saudi Arabia, through OPEC, has repeatedly rejected US requests to increase oil
production. This aims to maintain the stability of oil prices so that they do not rise too
high and meet the needs of the United States' oil consumption. Through a realist
neoclassical framework, in this research the author will identify the basis for Saudi
Arabia's rejection in the independent variables and intervening variables. The novelty
that emerges in this research is the behavior of the two countries which does not usually
occur, because in some of the literature researched by the authors it is clear that the
cooperation between the two countries is going well.
