Abstract

Indonesia has plunged into an aging society, and according to Indonesian
statistics, Bali ranks fourth in the ranking of the largest elderly population, but in
contrast, the quantity of elderly accommodation in Indonesia, especially in Bali can be
considered as very low. Therefore, elderly housing is in dire need. Not only quantity,
increasing the quality of the elderly housing is also very important, the elder people have
to be included in world development by implementing age inclusivity. As a case study,
there are only two government owned elderly care home in Buleleng, Bali. One of them
is Jara Mara Pati Care Home which by doing precedent and literature studies, interview
and direct survey, the care home is still far from the word adequate for the elderly
wellbeing, mainly because Jara Mara Pati Retirement Home is government owned,
funding is limited and as a result the care home do not have sufficient equipment and
capacity and are not yet age-appropriately designed to fully accommodate elder people on
having a good life quality. Therefore, in this project, a redesign will be carried out for the
purpose of remodeling elder society. Creating an inclusive comfortable building
dedicated to the elderly by improving the residents well-being through sensory and
wellness design and neo vernacular architecture.
