Abstract

This research is entitled "Media Literacy Ability of Diponegoro University Students
2018 in Using Social Media TikTok to Deal with Hoax Information". The purpose
of this research is to find out how the media literacy skills of Diponegoro University
students are in using social media TikTok to deal with hoax information. This study
uses a qualitative research method with a case study approach. Data collection
techniques carried out are observation, interviews, and documentation. The results
of this study indicate that Diponegoro University students have various media
literacy abilities according to media literacy methods, ranging from attention,
participation, collaboration, network awareness, and critical use. There are
Diponegoro University students who do the five ways of media literacy, but there
are also students who do not do all of the five ways or aspects but only do some of
them. However, it can be said that Diponegoro University students have fulfilled or
have media literacy skills, especially in using social media TikTok to deal with hoax
