Abstract

Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan utama untuk mengetahui persepsi pemustaka
terhadap penggunaan skema klasifikasi Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC)
di Perpustakaan Kota Semarang. Dalam melakukan penelitian ini, metode
kualitatif digunakan untuk pengambilan data dengan pendekatan wawancara.
Pengambilan data dalam penelitian dilakukan dengan tiga cara yakni
wawancara semi terstruktur, observasi subjek penelitian, dan studi literatur.
Penelitian ini menggunakan sepuluh pemustaka yang rutin menggunakan
fasilitas di Perpustakaan Kota Semarang sebagai subjek penelitian utama dalam
penelitian tersebut. Dari sepuluh pemustaka tersebut, lima di antaranya
memiliki latar belakang ilmu perpustakaan yang cukup memadai. Wawancara
semi terstruktur diimplementasikan untuk memperoleh pendapat mereka satu
per satu. Setelah wawancara tersebut dilakukan, analisis hasil wawancara
menggunakan metode reduksi sata, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan.
Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa persepsi pemustaka terhadap skema
sistem klasifikasi di Perpustakaan secara keseluruhan telah membantu dalam
mengelola bahan pustaka yang ada agar lebih tertata dan mudah ditemukan.
Namun kendati demikian pemustaka masih mendapati beberapa faktor
penghambat dalam menemukan bahan pustaka secara mandiri hal ini juga
dikarenakan faktor latar belakang pendidikan.
This study has the main objective to determine the perceptions of users on the
use of the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) scheme in the Semarang City
Library. In conducting this research, a qualitative method was used to collect
data with an interview approach. Data collection in the study was carried out
in three ways, namely semi-structured interviews, observation of research
subjects, and literary study. This study used ten visitors who routinely use the
facilities in the Semarang City Library as the primary research subjects in the
study. Of the ten librarians, five of them have sufficient background in library
science. A structured interview was implemented to get their opinion one by
one. After the interview was conducted, the results were analyzed utilizing the
method of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The
results of this study indicate that the user's perception of the classification
system scheme in the library as a whole is good. Meanwhile, users with a
background in library science can elaborate their perceptions more thoroughly
due to their relevant educational background factors. On the other hand,
readers who do not come from an academic background in Library Science
have not elaborated their perceptions in a more structured manner.
