Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of libraries as facilities and services that are
sources of information. Despite the importance of libraries as a source of information, there
are still many people who do not utilize the facilities and services available in libraries. For
this reason, this research aims to find out about community motivation in using Semarang
Regency libraries and the role of libraries in increasing community motivation. The research
method used in this research is a qualitative research method. The data collection technique
in the research was carried out through semi-structured interviews involving 10 informants.
The data that has been obtained is then analyzed using thematic analysis. The research results
showed 3 themes consisting of community motivation, factors that influence community
motivation, and challenges in using libraries. The community's motivation to use it is driven
by educational motives such as learning and increasing knowledge, secondly, social motives
where the library is used for social events such as seminars, workshops and other social
activities, and thirdly, namely economic motives where people use it to gain knowledge at a
more affordable cost. Factors that influence people's motivation to use the library, such as the
accessibility factor which includes ease of access to reach the library and the service quality
factor which is a factor that is measured by how good the quality provided by the library, both
facilities and services. There are also challenges in using libraries such as the challenge of
library accessibility which is difficult to reach, the challenge of lack of public awareness of the
benefits of libraries, the challenge of adapting to new technology which can occur due to a
lack of experts who can help utilize new technology in libraries, then the final challenge is the
challenge of limited resources where resources such as books and other facilities in libraries
are still lacking updates and lack of completeness of books.
