Abstract

Intensive shrimp farming has caused several environmental problems, one of which is pollution. These pollutants come from biotic and abiotic sources. Examples of biotic contaminants such as parasites, bacteria, and viruses. While abiotic pollutants such as nitrates and phosphates. Irregular layout and water management is are not according to a good aquaculture/biosecurity standards in Pontang Subdistrict, which can spread pollutants. These conditions affect the potential of bacteria, saprobity and environmental status. This research aimed to analyze the potential of bacteria, saprobity level, and environmental status. Sampling by purposive sampling method. Samples were taken at 10 stations in intensive shrimp ponds, traditional milkfish ponds, waterways, and rivers. The results showed that the abundance of heterotrophic bacteria was below 106 CFU/ml and pathogenic bacteria (Vibrio) was below 104 CFU/ml. The types of bacteria found were Vibrio, Pseudomonas, Pasteurella, and Acinetobacter. The level of saprobity indicates lightly to heavily polluted waters. The environmental status based on the potential of bacteria, saprobity and water quality shows the condition is feasible/suitable for aquaculture business with the presence of limiting factors that affect productivity.
