Abstract

Water management in hotel and apartment buildings in Semarang City is still predominantly dependent on municipal water supply (Perumda Air Minum) and groundwater (deep well), while the utilization of alternative water sources has not been optimally implemented. This condition leads to high clean water consumption and a low level of water conservation in buildings. This study aims to: (1) analyze water management before the implementation of integrated water management in hotel and apartment buildings in Semarang City; (2) analyze water management after the implementation of integrated water management; (3) analyze water and cost savings after the implementation of integrated water management; (4) analyze water conservation after the implementation of integrated water management; and (5) analyze the relationship between integrated water management component variables and the percentage of water savings.
This study employed a quantitative approach with research objects consisting of seven hotels and three apartment buildings in Semarang City. The analysis was conducted through water demand calculations, water balance assessment, and the implementation of integrated water management strategies, including rainwater harvesting, water-saving plumbing fixtures, gray water recycling, and air conditioner condensate water utilization. Statistical analyses were performed using correlation and multiple linear regression methods.
The results indicate that before the implementation of integrated water management, all buildings were highly dependent on municipal water and groundwater, with water demand ranging from 30.807 to 204.164 m³/day. After the implementation of integrated water management, groundwater use was reduced by 100% in all research buildings. The average water savings reached 80.40% during rainy days and 60.20% during dry days, with the highest savings reaching approximately 100% during rainy days and 84.8% during dry days. The level of water conservation was categorized as high to very high, supported by the contribution of rainwater, recycled water, and air conditioner condensate. Statistical analysis revealed that the model demonstrated strong explanatory power, with coefficients of determination (R²) of 91.9% during rainy days and 84.9% during dry days. During rainy days, water savings were primarily influenced by rainwater utilization with a regression coefficient of 0.458, whereas during dry days, condensate water had the strongest influence with a regression coefficient of 11.057.
This study concludes that integrated water management in hotel and apartment buildings effectively improves water-use efficiency, reduces dependence on groundwater, lowers water operational costs, and supports sustainable water conservation in Semarang City. Therefore, the implementation of integrated water management is recommended for hotel and apartment buildings as an urban water conservation strategy.
