Abstract

This study examines the representation of feminist values by the main character,
Katniss Everdeen, in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. The
research aims to examine how Katniss represents feminist values through her
character, political and personal struggles, and interpersonal relationships with
other female characters. Using a qualitative description method and building on
the feminist theory of Bell Hooks particularly her concepts of women’s solidarity
and resistance. The research analyzes how Katniss embodies assertive feminist
traits such as strength, intelligence, compassion, and collaboration among women.
Findings indicate that the novel illustrates various forms of female resistance
against patriarchal and autocratic domination. Also, Katniss is not just depicted as
a powerful individual but also as a political resistance symbol. This study
concludes that Catching Fire is a feminist theory contribution since it encourages
readers to be critical regarding the role that women undertake in the process of
resisting structural oppression.
