Abstract

The transition from university life to the workforce often triggers anxiety and uncertainty among fourth-year students. This study aimed to examine the positive and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and career maturity among fourth-year students of the Management Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Diponegoro University. The proposed hypothesis stated that there is a positive and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and career maturity among fourth-year students of the Management Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Diponegoro University. The study population involved of 306 active undergraduate students. The final sample comprised 105 active students from the Management Study Program, Class of 2022, who were selected using a convenience sampling technique. Data were collected online using two Likert-type psychological scales, the Emotional Intelligence Scale (α = 0,924), based on Goleman's theory, and the Career Maturity Scale (α = 0,949), based on Super's theory. The data were analyzed using simple linear regression through JASP software. The results revealed a strong positive and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and career maturity (r = 0,659, F = 79,032, p < .001), with emotional intelligence contributing 43,4% of the variance in career maturity (r² = 0,434). Therefore, the research hypothesis was supported. These findings suggest that the development of emotional intelligence may serve as
an effective strategy for enhancing students' career maturity and reparing them for the transition from higher education to the workforce.
