Abstract
This thesis addresses the societal conditions in the form of peer pressure in North
Shore High in which is presented through Cady Heron, the main character of
Mean Girls. As a teen satire movie, Mean Girls shows many aspects regarding
adolescent transformations due to influences of society participants or actors.
This study aims to identify the relevant expectations towards Cady Heron shown
in the movie. To analyze the effect the peer pressure had on Cady Heron, the
writer uses Berger & Luckmann’s theory of society as an objective reality theory
through the library research method. The findings show that societal peer
pressure had an effect on Cady Heron regarding her appearance, what she does
for herself, and how she treats her peers. While her appearance took an effect to a
more revealing yet neutral change, her behavior and attitude took a change from
negative to positive. Furthermore, it can be concluded that societal peer pressure
can change someone within various aspects.
