Abstract

Self-compassion is an attitude of kindness and care toward oneself when facing difficulties, suffering, or negative experiences. Among senior undergraduates, self-compassion is thought to play a role in helping individuals cope with various academic demands during the thesis writing process, thereby influencing the level of psychological distress they experience. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-compassion and psychological distress among senior
undergraduate students at Diponegoro University. This quantitative research approach involved 150 senior undergraduate students at Diponegoro University. Data were collecteted using purposive sampling, employing scales that had undergone validity and relability testing to measure both variables. Analysis was conducted using simple linear regression, along with additional analyses including
desvriptive statistics and correlations among the aspect. The results indicate a significant negative relationship between self-compassion and psychological distress (r =-0.663; p = 0.001) with a 44%contribution. Descriptively, the majority of respondents fell into the Moderate category for both self-compassion (36%) and
psychological distress (38.7%). Additional analysis showed that all aspects of self-compassion had a significant negative correlation with all aspect of psychological distress.
