Abstract
Chandra, Muhammad Ari Surya. 2026. “Pemberitaan Sukima baito oleh
Nikkei, TBS News dan Nippon News Network pada tahun 2023-2026: Analisis
Framing: A Framing Analysis.” Undergraduate Thesis. Japanese Language and
Culture Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Diponegoro University. Advisor:
Dewi Saraswati Sakariah, S.S., M.Si.
This study examines how Japanese mass media, namely Nikkei, TBS News,
and Nippon News Network frame news coverage of sukima baito, a new type of
part-time work in Japan that emerged in 2018 and is often cited as a solution to
labor shortages.
This study employs Robert N. Entman’s framing theory, which
encompasses four elements of analysis: problem identification, diagnosis of causes,
moral decision-making, and recommendations for resolution. The research method
used is qualitative descriptive analysis with a media text analysis approach. Primary
data was obtained from 9 online news articles, three from each media outlet,
published between October 2023 and March 2026. The selection of the three media
outlets was based on their level of public trust and differing ideological orientations:
Nikkei, which tends to be moderate; TBS News, which tends to be liberal; and NNN,
which tends to be conservative. The research results indicate that all three media
outlets play an active role in constructing a positive image of sukima baito. Nikkei
frames sukima baito by highlighting its structural flexibility; TBS News frames it
as a temporary emergency solution; while NNN emphasizes addressing the
fundamental issues faced by workers. Thus, this analysis confirms that the mass
media not only serve as informants but also help shape public perspectives on
events and issues in society.
