Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan stres penyesuaian budaya pada mahasiswa Indonesia yang menempuh pendidikan di China. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode fenomenologis deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara semi-terstruktur terhadap mahasiswa Indonesia yang telah menempuh studi minimal satu tahun di China. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa stres penyesuaian budaya muncul akibat hambatan bahasa, perbedaan budaya, tekanan akademik, dan keterbatasan dukungan sosial, yang berdampak pada kecemasan, perasaan terasing, serta penurunan performa akademik. Mahasiswa menggunakan strategi coping berupa problem-focused coping dan emotion-focused coping, seperti meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa, mencari dukungan sosial, dan aktivitas religius. Kesimpulan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan adaptasi dipengaruhi oleh dukungan sosial, kecakapan bahasa, serta strategi coping yang digunakan.
This study aims to explore acculturative stress among Indonesian students pursuing higher education in China. The study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive phenomenological method. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with Indonesian students who had studied in China for at least one year. The findings revealed that acculturative stress emerged as a result of language barriers, cultural differences, academic pressures, and limited social support. These challenges contributed to feelings of anxiety, social isolation, and decreased academic performance. Participants utilized various coping strategies, including problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping, such as improving language proficiency, seeking social support, and engaging in religious activities. The study concludes that students’ adaptation processes are influenced by the availability of social support, language competence, and the coping strategies they employ.
