Abstract

Historical tourism areas in urban areas always encounter growth and
developments which results in changes in the settlement area. Kotagede as
an ancient city of the former heritage of the capital of Mataram Kingdom was
declared a cultural heritage area in Yogyakarta by showing its unique
personality and one of them is the silver handicraft industry. The activities
starting from production until buying-selling activities are found in shops and
settlement spaces along with household activities in general. This causes
problems such as phenomenon of changes in settlement area in Kotagede
which was originally characterized by organic and traditional changes to adjust
needs of the silver industry activity that improve the economic for local
community.
This study aims to find out the impact of the silver industry activities on
the changes in settlement area in the historic area of Kotagede. The method
used is a quantitative method with a positivistic paradigm and uses descriptive
analysis. Statistical data analysis using multivariate linear regression test
using SPSS 16.0 for Windows software.
In this study it was found that there was an impact of the silver industry
activity on changes in settlement area with low significance that is equal to
20.7% while the remaining 79.3% was impacted by other factors outside the
research model. While partially, the variables that most impact the changes in
settlement area are production activities (X1) with an effect of 13.8% of the
total 20.7%.
