Abstract

Intensive social media use among adolescents increases the risk of social media fatigue, adversely affecting psychological well-being. WAVE (Well-Being Animation Video Education) is an engaging animated video intervention designed to improve understanding and reduce digital fatigue. This study examined WAVE’s effectiveness in reducing social media fatigue in adolescents using a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest non-equivalent control group design with two experimental groups and one control group. Data were analyzed with Wilcoxon, Kruskal–Wallis, and Mann–Whitney tests. Results showed significant reductions in social media fatigue in both experimental groups (p < 0.001), while the control group showed no significant change (p = 0.592). There was a significant difference in effectiveness between groups (p = 0.002). Post hoc Mann–Whitney tests with Bonferroni correction indicated each intervention group differed significantly from the control (p < 0.001; p = 0.014) but not from each other (p = 0.283). WAVE effectively reduced social media fatigue and has potential as a digital education alternative to support adolescents’ psychological well-being.
