Abstract
Restricted freedom of movement and limited access to personal resources cause inmates to experience negative emotions and struggle to manage their emotions. Adaptive emotion regulation during emerging adulthood benefits their psychosocial functioning in coping with fluctuating emotions during this transitional phase and lowers the rate of recidivism. Self-compassion facilitates emotion regulation, enabling individuals to respond to negative emotions with greater acceptance and mindfulness. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-compassion and emotional regulation among emerging adulthood with drug offender at the Lembaga Pemasyarakatan Kelas I Semarang. The study used a correlational method. The study population consisted of 95 inmates aged 18 to 25 years with drug-related offenses. The sample comprised 95 participants selected using total sampling. Data were collected using Self-Compassion Scale (17 items, α = 0.916) and the Emotional Regulation Scale (16 items, α = 0.926). The results of simple linier regression analysis indicate a positive significant relationship between self-compassion and emotional regulation among emerging adulthood drug offender at the Lembaga Pemasyarakatan Kelas I Semarang (r = 0.378, p < 0.001, R^2 = 0.143). These findings indicate that the higher the level of self-compassion, the higher the level of emotional regulation among emerging adulthood drug offender at the Lembaga Pemasyarakatan Kelas I Semarang. The higher level of self-compassion, the higher emotional regulation of individual. The R^2 value indicates that self-compassion contributes 14.3% to emotional regulation, while 85.7% is attributed to other factors not examined in this study. It can be concluded that self-compassion is one of the factors contributing to the emotional regulation abilities of inmates in the emerging adulthood drug offender.
