Abstract
This study focuses on the translation of pronouns in the Indonesian subtitles of Frozen (2013), especially in Anna’s dialogue. Pronouns are important because they refer to people or things and show relationships between characters. However, English and Indonesian have different pronoun systems, which can affect meaning, clarity, and formality in subtitles. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method to analyze pronoun shifts and the pronoun shift strategies used in the subtitles based on Pedersen (2011), including direct translation, substitution, omission, official equivalent, specification, generalization, and retention. The data were taken from Anna’s dialogue that contains English pronouns and their Indonesian translations. The results show that several pronoun shift strategies are used, with Direct Translation as the most dominant strategy. This indicates that the translator often keeps the original pronoun with small adjustments. Overall, the use of these strategies helps make the subtitles clear, natural, and easy for the audience to understand.
Keywords: pronoun shift, translation strategy, subtitling.
