Abstract

Embodiment is an embodiment based on human mental and physical experience. The body is experienced in various ways, shaped through historical, social, and cultural journeys. The body is present by displaying gender identity. For example, there is a body that has both masculine and feminine characteristics in the same body.
This research raises how the body is represented in a local queer context in the film Kucumbu Body Indahku. The purpose of this research is to explain how local queer embodiment is represented in the film.
This study uses a qualitative approach with John Fiske's semiotic analysis technique. The mise-en-scene cinematic code is used to view the representation of the film Kucumbu Body Indahku. Then, the representation results were analyzed using Foucault's theory of power relations, queer theory, the concept of gender, and the concept of embodiment.
The local queer body representation is raised through character changes in the film's characters. First, changes in appearance using dancer's clothes, the movements are graceful. Second, the psychology of mental pressure in the form of violence, bullying, and injuring one's own body. Finally, the sociology of character change is based on the relationship and connection with other characters experienced by the main character. The depiction forms the body's main character, such as masculine and feminine bodies, traumatic bodies, power relations to the body, and social and cultural bodies. This study concludes that the local queer body in this film can be accepted in the context of local cultural wisdom in the traditional Lengger and Reog Ponorogo dances. However, in everyday life, the queer body is still experiencing rejection.
