Abstract

ABSTRACT
Prayudanti, Yolanda. 2023. "Revitalization of Fukushima's Agriculture and Fisheries Industry as a Form of Adaptation to theTripleDisasters". Undergraduate Thesis, Study of Japanese Language and Culture, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University. Advisor: Dewi Saraswati Sakariah, S.S., M.S.

The writing of this thesis is motivated by the newly and very first situation facing by Japan about mitigating disasters. The Triple Disasters hit Japan to the situation where its created harshly new and damaged environment to live in, which we know is Fukushima Prefecture. The disaster affected Fukushima's two main industries, agriculture and fisheries. Then, the distinction of this writing led by distinguish type of disasters happened there and varies of whom in charge and willing to do revitalization there. We aimed to explain how they do revitalization as a form of adaption to new environment situation using Arnold Toynbee’s theory of Challenge and Response. By explaining“challenges they face” and “response they put” during the revitalization agenda in those 2 industries, we can figure out how their acts on adaptation will determine the continuing of their civilization next. The result show that both industries are accumulatively undergoing social change in order to adapt to the new and damaged environment caused by the Triple Disasters in Japan. This social change can be seen in Japan's response to revitalize and save civilization in Fukushima. Moreover, in the process, there are actors from the government, private sector, NGOs, and the community involved in the idea of revitalization.
