Abstract

Hunisi. 2023. ‘Virtual Youtuber Video as a Medium for Learning Mathematics Case Study of Virtual Youtuber Kureiji Ollie”. Thesis Japanese Language and Culture Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University. This study analyzes Kureiji Ollie’s Learning strategy and her audiences responses. Kureiji Ollie is a member of Hololive Indonesia second generation who added a math learning to her youtube channel. The purpose of this study is to identufy Kureiji Ollie’s learning strategy and how her audience responses towards her math videos. This study uses the concept of learning strategies by Wina Sanjaya, theory of popular culture by John Storey and theory encoding- decoding theory by Stuart Hall. The result of this study reveals that Kureiji Ollie uses expository learbibg strategy with lecture and demonstration as her learning methods. She is also uses social media platform as her learning technics and as her learning tactis she uses anime zombie girl style as her Vtuber avatar, uses code switching and code mixing while lecturing and before ending her class she always doing free talk with her audiences. It was also found that Kureiji Ollie's math learning content falls into the category of mass culture according to John Storey. Kureiji Ollie succeeded in presenting his virtual class well so that his audience responded positively.
