Abstract

Abstract. The problem of women's representation in the media is complex. The way the media presents sexual
violence can influence the public's perception of understanding the issue of sexual violence. Even though,
sexual violence has physical, financial, and psychological consequences that affect the lives of victims.
Previous research that has been done tends to focus on written texts. The focus of the analysis in this study is
the illustration of women on rape news from the news portal Detik.com from 20 May 2022 to 20 June 2022.
This study seeks to describe gender bias in women's illustrations on rape news. The point of view of this
research refers to the critical paradigm. The approach used is descriptive qualitative with semiological analysis
developed by Roland Barthes. This study places Bourdieu's thoughts on Symbolic Power as the basis for
thinking. The results of this study show the myth of resistance in the patriarchal culture. Illustration of rape
news presented in a biased manner. In general, four are three discourses on the illustration of women in rape
news. First, the weakening of women. Second, women are the source of the problem. Third, women's beauty
standards.
