Ekosistem mangrove menyediakan fungsi ekologis dalam upaya mitigasi
perubahan iklim melalui penyerapan karbon secara alami dari atmosfer dan
menyimpannya dalam bentuk biomassa. Kegiatan antropogenik memberi tekanan
yang menyebabkan kawasan mangrove terdegradasi. Rehabilitasi mangrove
sebagai solusi untuk memulihkan fungsi ekologis ekosistem mangrove serta
sebagai upaya peningkatan stok karbon. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui
kandungan biomassa dan simpanan karbon pada tegakan, nilai simpanan karbon
pada sedimen serta estimasi kemampuan tegakan dan sedimen dalam menyerap
CO2. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Mei 2022 di hutan mangrove Pasarbanggi.
Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode survei. Pengambilan
sampel dilakukan pada 5 stasiun penelitian yang ditentukan dengan menggunakan
metode purposive sampling. Analisis simpanan karbon pada tegakan mangrove
menggunakan metode non destructive dengan persamaan allometrik, sedangkan
analisis pada sedimen menggunakan metode LOI (Loss on Ignition). Hasil
penelitian diperoleh kandungan biomassa dan simpanan karbon pada tegakan
mangrove yaitu 672,00 ton/ha dan 309,12 ton/ha, simpanan karbon pada sedimen
yaitu 24465,07 ton/ha dan estimasi kemampuan menyerap CO2 pada tegakan dan
sedimen berdasarkan simpanan karbon sebesar 1134,46 ton/ha dan 89786,80
ton/ha. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, sedimen mangrove memiliki potensi
penyimpanan karbon dan penyerap CO2 terbesar pada ekosistem mangrove
sebagai mitigasi perubahan iklim.

Mangrove ecosystems provide an ecological function in mitigating climate
change through the natural absorption of carbon from the atmosphere and storing
it in the form of biomass. Anthropogenic activities put pressure on the mangrove
area to be degraded. Mangrove rehabilitation is a solution to restore the
ecological function of the mangrove ecosystem as well as an effort to increase
carbon stocks. The purpose of this study was to determine the biomass content
and carbon storage in the stand, the value of carbon storage in the sediment and
to estimate the ability of the stand and sediment to absorb CO2. The research was
conducted in May 2022 in the Pasarbanggi mangrove forest. The method used in
this study is a survey method. Sampling was carried out at 5 research stations
determined by using the purposive sampling method. Analysis of carbon storage
in mangrove stands used non-destructive methods with allometric equations,
while analysis on sediments used the LOI (Loss on Ignition) method. The results
showed that the biomass content and carbon storage in mangrove stands were
672,00 tons/ha and 309,12 tons/ha, carbon storage in sediments was 24465,07
tons/ha and the estimated ability to absorb CO2 in stands and sediments based on
carbon storage was 1134,46 tons/ha and 89786,80 tons/ha. Based on the results
of the study, mangrove sediments have the greatest potential for carbon storage
and CO2 absorption in the mangrove ecosystem as climate change mitigation.
