Abstract

Abstract
Reducing carbon emissions is having a positive effect on human health and the environment. However, this effort faces
challenges along with the increasing global energy consumption where one of the main causes of this energy consumption
growth also comes from Indonesia. The value of Indonesia's electricity consumption in 2020 has increased compared to the
previous year to 1,088 GWh per capita. In order to meet the electricity consumption, the prepared electricity has reached
271,802.48 GWh, of which 14.3% have utilized renewable energy. The writing of this article uses a qualitative descriptive
method with focus on: Development of renewable energy power plants for archipelagic countries; and the possibility
development of renewable energy power plants in Karimunjawa Islands of Indonesia. This article concludes that the
development of renewable energy deserves to be further developed considering the positive impacts and benefits such as
minimizing the impact of climate change and efforts to seek energy security and fulfill the basic needs of people in certain
areas. The impacts and benefits obtained from the development of new and renewable energy have the potential to be
implemented in small islands of Karimunjawa.
