Abstract

ABSTRACT
Safety plays a crucial role in determining the development of a civilization. In many
ways, to ensure safety, the police institution is the direct actor dealing with possible
sources of chaos first-hand. The Indonesian National Police (INP), as part of the
international police community in the INTERPOL, takes part in various activities
held by the international organization, which also include the capacity-building and
quality-enhancing practices conducted for officials of police institutions
worldwide. With an increase in volume in the cases of missing persons, unidentified
bodies, and crimes against children faced by the INP, with victims stemming not
only from Indonesia but also internationally, increased operational support and
communication are quintessential for not only the INP but also every police force
in the world. INTERPOL assistance in support of countries in combatting online
child sexual exploitation, the I-Familia database, and the granting of special rights
and immunities for INTERPOL officials in the territory of a member state are
perceived as suitable mechanisms to increase the efficacy and efficiency of
worldwide police institutions, including the INP. The objective of this research is
to know how INTERPOL managed to establish a better collaboration among
member states. This research employs the securitization theory and qualitative
method in analysis, field and literature studies, and process tracing interpretation of
the gathered information. Analysis shows that the INTERPOL succeeded in
securitizing a better coordination and collective efforts among its member states on
tackling multiple previously-overlooked issues through adept coordination and
various meetings prior to and during the 90
th
INTERPOL General Assembly.
