Abstract

China's infrastructure development projects in Indonesia have been carried out before 2013. The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a Chinese strategy with mega development projects in various regions, one of which is Indonesia. The infrastructure development projects established by China target poor and developing countries. BRI is an instrument for China and Indonesia in fulfilling the national interests of each country. In its implementation, the development project from China raises various controversies, one of which is interdependence. Interdependence will produce various impacts for a country, not only causing positive, but also negative sides. This research aims to describe the impact of interdependence that occurs between Indonesia and China through the BRI project from the perspective of interdependence theory. This research is descriptive qualitative in nature. The data of this research will be obtained through literature studies, namely books, scientific articles, news, journals and other credible sources that can be trusted and also in accordance with the topic of research conducted. The data will be processed with qualitative methods. By using the theory of interdependence, the findings found that with the impact of interdependence in China and Indonesia's development cooperation through BRI produces positive and negative impacts. With the BRI, Indonesia and China can bring about a harmonized vision of development by developing infrastructure development as an effort to prosper both countries. However, the BRI program also illustrates that there is an unbalanced interdependence. Where China through this cooperation utilizes its cooperation with Indonesia to be able to increase the advantages it already has by expanding its interest.
