Buah Lindur (Bruguiera gymnorrhiza) dan Kitosan Terhadap Karakteristik Plastik
Biodegradable. (Eko Nurcahya Dewi dan Laras Rianingsih).
Tepung pati buah lindur memiliki kadar pati yang tinggi, sehingga dapat
digunakan sebagai bahan pembuatan plastik biodegradable. Pembuatan plastik
biodegradable berbahan pati saja umumya akan menghasilkan plastik dengan kuat
tarik rendah dan kurang fleksibel, sehingga perlu ditambahkan kitosan untuk
memperbaiki karakteristik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik,
komposisi terbaik, dan pengaruh komposisi dari tepung pati buah lindur-kitosan
pada pembuatan plastik biodegradable. Pembuatan plastik biodegradable diawali
dengan mencampurkan larutan tepung pati buah lindur dengan larutan kitosan serta
gliserol. Larutan dipanaskan menggunakan suhu 70-80o
C selama 25 menit,kemudian dituang ke cetakan kaca dan dikeringkan pada suhu 50o C selama 20 jam.
Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan yaitu Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL)
dengan komposisi tepung pati buah lindur-kitosan 10:0, 9:1, 8:2, 7:3, dan 6:4.
Komposisi tepung pati buah lindur-kitosan yang berbeda dapat mempengaruhi nilai
hedonik, kuat tarik, persen pemanjangan (elogasi), biodegradabilitas, ketahanan
terhadap air, dan antibakteri. Semakin tinggi komposisi kitosan dan semakin rendah
komposisi tepung pati buah lindur dapat meningkatkan nilai hedonik pada
parameter kenampakan, kuat tarik, ketahanan plastik terhadap air, dan antibakteri.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan terbaik yaitu plastik biodegradable
dengan komposisi tepung pati buah lindur-kitosan 6:4 yang memiliki nilai
kenampakan 8,6 ± 0,81, aroma 5,4 ± 0,81, tekstur 6,4 ± 0,93, kuat tarik 20,61±0,469
MPa, elongasi 5,216±0,203 %, biodegradabilitas 6,12±3,956 mg/hari, ketahanan
terhadap air 86,5±0,709 %, dan zona hambat sebesar 2±0,2 mm untuk bakteri
Escherichia coli dan 1,4±0,1 mm untuk bakteri Staphylococcus aureus.

Lindur fruit starch flour has a high starch content, so it can be used as a
biodegradable plastic manufacturing material. The manufacture of biodegradable
plastic made from starch alone will produce plastic with low tensile strength and
less flexible, so it is necessary to add the chitosan to improve the characteristics.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect and best composition of the
lindur fruit starch flour-chitosan. The manufacture of biodegradable plastic
begins with mixing a solution of lindur fruit starch flour with a solution of chitosan
and glycerol. The solution was heated at 70-80o C for 25 minutes, then poured into
a glass mold and dried at 50o C for 20 hours. The research design used was a
Completely Randomized Design with the composition of lindur fruit starch flourchitosan 10:0, 9:1, 8:2, 7:3, and 6:4. Different compositions of lindur fruit starch
flour-chitosan can affect the hedonic value, tensile strength, percent elongation
(elogation), biodegradability, resistance to water, and antibacterial. The higher of
chitosan composition and the lower of starch composition of lindur fruit flour can
increase the hedonic value on the parameters of appearance, tensile strength,
plastic resistance to water, and antibacterial. The results showed that the best
treatment was biodegradable plastic with a composition of lindur fruit starch
flour -chitosan 6:4 which had an appearance value of 8.6 ± 0.81, scent 5.4 ±
0.81, texture 6.4 ±0.93, tensile strength 20.61±0.469 MPa, elongation
5.216±0.203%, biodegradability 6.12±3.956 mg/day, water resistance
86.5±0.709%, and inhibition zone of 2±0.2 mm for Escherichia coli and 1.4±0.1
mm for Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
