Abstract

The extension was an important role in agricultural development. The extension was to inform all of information to farmers. The problem with the extension was the limited number of extension worker, so the program couldn’t be optimal. This study aims to obtain information regarding the role of extension workers and farmers’ participation, and analyze the effect of the role of extension workers onfarmers’ participation in group assistance programs. This study used a survey method through purposive sampling with the consideration that the sample was a member of a farmer group that still receives an active assistance program. Primary data was collected by interviews and observation, while secondary data was collected by documentation. This study used descriptive analysis and Multiple Linear Regression analysis. The results showed that the role of agricultural extension workers was in the medium category and tends to be low. Farmer participation in the group assistance program was in the medium category. The role of extension workers simultaneously had a significant effect on farmers’ participation in group mentoring programs. The role of extension workers educators, facilitators, motivators, and evaluators partially had a significant effect on farmer participation, while as communicators didn’t have a significant effect because too difficult to get information from extension workers. This situation has made the objectives of agricultural extension and development in Blora District not yet achieved. Extension workers need to be more intensive to meet farmers directly, which is supported by government policies that didn’t hinder the performance of extension workers.
