Abstract

Mandala Bhakti Museum is a Military Museum located in Semarang. Its attractions are
mostly historical belonging owned by the Army. Despite having foreigners visiting the
museum every year, the museum has no Guidebook in English and the tour guides are not
fluent in English. The Solution to this is to make a translation of an existing Guidebook into
the target language so the tour guide could overcome the language barrier. The aim of this
study is to explain the importance of a translated Guidebook in Museum and to describe the
process of translating the Guidebook. The data of the research is taken from the Guidebook as
the source of the translation and it is translated into Target Language English. The data
collection method is Document analysis. The process of the translation is presented in tables
and followed by descriptions. the researcher observes in the setting while taking notes,
recording, watching, reading about the museum. The result shows that there are some types of
translation found; free translation, word for word translation, and literal translation. While for
the method, there are calque, transposition, modulation, and adaptation. The translator can use
the types and methods during the translation to make his translation more understandable,
precise, and suitable to the context and style.
