Abstract

PT.

PT. Berau Coal is a coal mining located in East Kalimantan and operates three mining areas, one of which is PT Berau Coal – Site Lati (LMO). Mining system at PT. Berau Coal – Site Lati (LMO) is carried out using an open pit mining system using the back filling method. PT Berau Coal – Site Lati (LMO) conducted a Life Cycle Assessment which aims to improve environmental performance and identify potential environmental impacts due to coal production activities. This research method refers to SNI ISO 14040:2016 and SNI ISO 14044:2017, Life Cycle Inventory, Life Cycle Impact Assessment and Interpretation. The impact assessment calculation is carried out on the production process using the CML IA Baseline impact assessment method with the help of Microsoft Excel software. The environmental impacts studied in this study include global warning potential, ozone depletion potential and acid rain potential with the scope of the study being cradle to gate. The scope of the study covers the existing production processes, namely land clearing, top soil removal, drilling and blasting, material removal, coal getting, coal hauling and coal crushing and then utility processes namely reclamation, WWTP, utility mining and workshop The material removal process contributes the highest impact by producing a global warming potential of 30,2 kgCO2eq/tonne of coal, ozone depletion potential of 6,84 x 10-6 kgCFC-11eq/ton of coal. The potential environmental impact generated in the material removal process is caused by the use of diesel fuel of 89.284.166 L with CO2 emissions of 238.174,44 tonsCO2eq.
