Baung (Mystus nemurus) merupakan salah satu jenis ikan lokal air tawar
yang banyak ditemukan di sungai-sungai di wilayah Indonesia. Baung juga
memiliki harga yang lebih tinggi berkisar (Rp 50.000,00-Rp 100.000,00/kg),
daripada beberapa jenis ikan konsumsi lainnya seperti ikan nila (Rp 25.000,00-Rp
35.000,00/kg), mas (Rp 21.000,00-Rp 40.000,00/kg), dan lele (Rp 15.000,00-Rp
,00/kg). Permasalahan pada budidaya ikan baung adalah laju
pertumbuhannya yang lambat dan kemampuannya dalam memanfaatakan pakan
kurang optimal. Cara untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut yaitu dengan
penambahan metionin pada pakan. Metionin diperlukan untuk pertumbuhan ikan,
karena merupakan prekusor dari protein dan kartinin, juga berkaitan dengan respon
imun pada beberapa jenis ikan.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh dan dosis optimum
penambahan metionin dalam pakan buatan komersial terhadap efisiensi
pemanfaatan pakan, pertumbuhan, dan kelulushidupan benih ikan baung (M.
nemurus). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan selama 42 hari di Balai Perbenihan Ikan Air
Tawar Ngrajek, Magelang, Jawa Tengah pada bulan Juni - Agustus 2021. Ikan uji
yang digunakan adalah ikan baung dengan bobot rata-rata 43,3±49g/ekor.
Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan rancangan acak lengkap
(RAL) terdiri atas 4 perlakuan dan 3 kali ulangan. Perlakuan dalam penelitian ini
adalah penambahan metionin pada pakan buatan komersial yaitu 0%/kg pakan (A);
0,45%/kg pakan (B); 0,9%/kg pakan (C); dan 1,35%/kg pakan (D). Metode
pemberian pakan yang digunakan yaitu ad satiation.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan metionin pada pakan
komersial berpengaruh nyata (P<0,05) terhadap TKP, EPP, PER, RGR, dan FCR
tetapi tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap SR. Dosis optimum penambahan metionin
pada pakan buatan untuk ikan baung adalah 0,61; 0,73; 0,73; 0,74; dan 0,8 g/kg
pakan yang menghasilkan TKP, EPP, PER, RGR, dan FCR maksimal sebesar
136,29g; 67,5%; 2,55%; 2,93%/ hari; dan 1,15.

Baung (Mystus nemurus) is one of the local freshwater fish species that are
commonly found in rivers in Indonesia. Baung also has a higher price in the range
(Rp 50,000-Rp 100.000,00/kg), than several other types of consumption fish such
as tilapia (Rp 25,000.00-Rp.35,000.00/kg), C.carpio (Rp 21,000, 00-Rp
40.000,00/kg), and catfish (Rp.15.000,00-Rp.20.000,00/kg). The problem with
baung fish farming is that its growth rate is slow and its ability to utilize feed is not
optimal. One way to overcome this problem is by adding methionine to the feed.
Methionine is needed for fish growth, because it is a precursor of protein and
cartinin, and is also associated with immune responses in some fish species.
This study was conducted to examine the effect and optimum doses of
adding methionine in commercially feed on the efficiency of feed utilization on
growth performance and survival of Baung (M. nemurus). This research was
conducted at the Balai Perbenihan Ikan Air Tawar Ngrajek, Magelang, Central Java
in June - August 2021. The test fish used in the study were baung with an average
weight of 43,3±49g/fish. This study used an experimental method with analysis of
variance (one-way ANOVA) consisting of 4 treatments and 3 replications. Fish
were fed with four dosages of addition methionin with on feed, at 0%/kg feed (A);
0.45%/kg feed (B); 0.9% /kg feed (C); and 1.35% /kg feed (D). The feeding method
used is ad satiation.
The results showed that the addition of methionine in commercially feed
had a significant effects (P<0.05) on TKP, EPP, PER, RGR, and FCR but had no
significant effect on SR. Treatment B (methionine 0.45%/kg feed) was the best
dosage which gave the highest value for TKP (731,90g), EPP (80,02%), FCR
(1,25), PER (3,2,63) dan RGR (2,90%/day. The optimum dose of the addition of
methionine in artificial feed for baung fish is 0.61; 0.73; 0.73; 0.74; and 0.8 g/kg
feed which produces a maximum TKP, EPP, PER, RGR, and FCR of 136.29g;
67.5%; 2.55%; 2,93%/day; and 1.15.
