Abstract

BACKGROUND: Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has become a pandemic in Indonesia. The increase in cases per day has been higher since the end of August 2020 which reached more than 2000 cases per day. An increase in confirmed cases has always occurred in Indonesia and the treatment of COVID-19 patients requires a long time, so the workload of health workers has now increased significantly. Burnout Syndrome (BOS) is a collection of psychological symptoms that appear as a prolonged response to chronic interpersonal stressors at work. With the high workload of medical personnel in handling COVID-19 due to the high number of patients in the hospital, this can be a stressor factor that triggers the occurrence of BOS events which can ultimately disrupt the quality of sleep for medical personnel. AIM: Analyze the correlation between burnout syndrome and sleep quality in health workers. METHOD: This study is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. This study was conducted from April-September 2021. Samples were taken from health workers who provide services for patients with confirmed COVID-19. Inclusion criteria included Health workers are actively working for at least 1 month in that section. The total sample that meets the criteria is 63 people. RESULT: Most of the subjects were women with an age range of 21-30 years, the most reported length of work was 1-3 years with an average total working time of 42 hours/week, most of the study subjects were at a moderate degree of burnout syndrome (73%), there was 50.8% of study subjects had good sleep quality and 49.2% of study subjects had poor sleep quality. CONCLUSION: There is a correlation between MBI and PSQI with a weak correlation and a positive correlation. This means that an increase in the MBI score (the higher the degree of burnout) is correlated with an increase in the PSQI score (the worse the quality of sleep), and vice versa.
